This photo of my mother Frances Matilda Woodworth, and her sister Freda, in the baby carriage was shot in South Willington, behind the mill village.  The barn in the background, still stands and beyond that, out of view is the dammed up lake used by the mill (The Gardner Hall Jr. Company – Thread Mill) for power.  Note the outhouses (or backhouses) behind the mill houses and the clothes lines, there were also vegetable gardens, out of view.  In one of the pages above (Page 5) she writes about mill maintenance with horse drawn carts cleaning the outhouses and spreading and plowing the “cleanings” into the vegetable gardens.
